Day 5: Santorini Wine Tasting Tour
A unique opportunity to visit some of the best wineries on Santorini. Your wine tour takes you to 3 wineries where you’ll learn about the history and production of wine in the region.
Visit Roussos winery, founded in 1836 and is the oldest of Santorini. It is located at Episkopi – Mesa Gonia. They cultivate 14 hectares of vine. Ioannis “Captain” Roussos’ optimism and lifestyle reminds of classic movie heroes. Its winery is really traditional that has taken only the necessary steps towards modernization.
Its strongest point is the sweet wines, like the Nama, that is produced like Vinsanto, with the difference that the grapes are sun dried for less than a week and mature in the oak barrel for only one year, and Mavrathiro, that is considered to be the best Roussos wine.
Visit Koutsoyiannopoulos Winery. The winery was founded in 1870 by the brothers Grigoris and Dimitris Koutsoyannopoulos. From 1870 to 1917 their main export destination was Odessa, Russia. The Russians showed a preference for the dry wine of Santorini due to its high alcohol levels (17 – 18% alc), as well as for Vinsanto that was used at Holy Communion. The Russian Revolution of 1917 marks the end of these exports, but new markets open up in West Europe, France and Italy. The popularity of Santorini wine confirms it as a truly high-quality wine.
Continue to the Venetsanos Winery overlooking the caldera. Learn about the winery and wine making on Santorini while enjoying spectacular views.

Dinner Recommendation – Roka Kafeneio Ouzeri
“Roka” Restaurant is settled in an old building of 1912 with interesting architecture –in an area where you can admire old, preserved captain houses.
The warm colors of the small courtyard filled with trees and flowers give you the feeling of a relaxing and pleasant welcome escaping from the crowd. Inside there are three small, charming rooms to sit ideal for some colder nights near the wooden stove and enjoy delicate flavors. On the backside of the restaurant there is wonderful sea view of the northwest side of the island. Hidden and private but only a few minutes away from the main marble walkway.
A new team with fresh ideas took over the restaurant in 2017 continuing the good work. Our vision is for the visitors to feel welcome and at home receiving experienced, attentive and friendly treatment. (meal paid locally)
