Located on the river Reie; Bruges is a wonderful town offering so much history and culture. You can take a lovely canal tour by boat and cruise under the picturesque bridges. In the main square of Bruges, you will not miss the amazing Halle and belfry.
If you want a bit of adventure while in Bruges, then take the 366 steps up the belfry and be amazed by the views from the top overlooking the city.

The Basilica of the Holy Blood not only is adorned with amazing gild work from the 16th century but also is said to have a drop of blood from Jesus that was brought to the basilica in the Second Crusade.

Planning a trip to Belgium for the historian must include a trip to see the Battlefields of Flanders. Thousands of tourists flock here each year to see the fully preserved trenches of World War 1 and visit the numerous cemeteries where thousands of soldiers are buried.

The Saint Bavo Cathedral in Ghent is a must for every trip to Belgium. It features the best religious architecture in all of Belgium. The Cathedral features the Altar of Ghent which is a masterpiece by the Flemish. Don’t forget to visit the crypt to see the amazing wall paintings.

Antwerp must be on your list when planning a trip to Belgium. Antwerp’s Grand Palace is a marvel of guild architecture, and the 16th century Town Hall features an amazing collection of paintings that depict the history of Antwerp. The most famous and well preserved of the guild houses is the Grocers House and Coopers House.

Belgium’s countryside offers the town of Mons which as some amazing history in a lovely setting.
The Church of Sainte-Waudru is a UNESCO site because of its bell tower and in the center of the town is the Grand Palace which is constructed from different buildings built between the 15th and 18th centuries.

Another amazing place in Belgium is Leuven. The city is home of St. Peters Church and Town Hall which are some of the best-preserved examples of Brabant Gothic style architecture in all of Belgium.

Belgium’s history just keeps going with Waterloo. This is where Napoleon was defeated in the historic battle of Waterloo. The area is filled with farms and fields where the battle took place but there is an impressive monument with a sculpture of a lion on top which represents when the army of Napoleon was defeated.

If you are a lover of nature, then you must put the Semois Valley on your list for a trip to Belgium.
Located in the south, this area is full of beautiful countryside’s, rolling hills and the Semois River. This area is great for hiking and riverboat tours, not to mention the amazing blooming wildflowers that span across the valley in spring.
