Within the complex, visitors must experience the Sisi Museum that offers a glimpse into the life and times of Empress Elisabeth. The Imperial Silver Collection and the Imperial Apartments are not to miss when visiting the Hofburg Palace.

The world-famous Lipizzaner horses came to Vienna in 1562 when the Spanish Riding School was formed by Emperor Maximilian II and today it is one of the only places in the world that you can still see classical riding style. Make sure to book your tickets in advance as the shows sell out fast!

In the 1700’s Empress Maria Theresa lived in the stunning Schönbrunn Palace located on the outskirts of Vienna. You can tour 40 of the more than 1,400 rooms, the Royal apartments, and the amazing ceiling paintings of the Great Gallery. Outside the palace there are more than 500 acres of gardens and parks to enjoy.

If palaces are on your must-see list for planning a trip to Austria; then don’t forget Vienna’s Belvedere Palace or Schloss Belvedere as the locals call it. This place is so large it is divided into two palaces: upper and lower. If you only have time for one, make sure not to miss the upper palace which has the largest collection of art, architecture, and the amazing Marble Hall and Carlone Hall. The lower palace of Belvedere contains the Marble Gallery, a second Marble Hall and some lovely shops and a restaurant. If you are planning a trip to Vienna in the winter, the Belvedere Palace has a wonderful Christmas Market you must see to believe.

Heading out of Vienna, Salzburg is a must see when planning a trip to Austria. The Abby of St. Peter in the historical old town is the cities highlight dating back to AD 690. Old town is also worth a walk to see the museum and birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The Tomb of Emperor Maximilian I, who died in 1519 is the focal point of the Hofkirche, located in Innsbruck, Austria. Amazing sculptures and art are a must see as well as the Golden Roof, in the Old Town.

On the Danube river lies the town of Melk, and perched above the town is the impressive Melk Abby. Spanning over 7 courtyards this structure is one of the most famous monastic destinations in the world. It contains the stunning House of Babenberg corridor, the Imperial Rooms, and the tomb of Saint Coloman of Stockerau; plenty to see for a few hours.

A UNESCO World Heritage site: the town of Hallstatt is one of the most beautiful small villages in all of Austria. The town was established by the production of salt and today you can tour a salt lake which is located underground in the Hörnerwerk cavern. You can also experience winter in the middle of summer in the Giant Ice Cave with its year-round sub-zero temperatures and its frozen waterfalls. Don’t forget to see the amazing view of the Alps from the 5 Fingers viewing platform during your visit.

Dating back to the Medieval times, located near the town of St. Veit is the castle of Burg Hochosterwitz, dating back to 860 AD. There is a winding road that goes up to the ancient castle through 14 gates used to defend the castle from enemies. Because of the amazing defense system of the castle, it never fell to an enemy.

Nature lovers who are planning a trip to Austria must include the countries tallest waterfall, the Krimmler Ache. Located in a wonderful area for hiking.
Those interested in Austria’s military history must visit the Landeszeughaus in the town of Graz. This is an incredible structure dating back to 1644 and houses a complete Styrian Arsenal which contains enough armor and arms to equip over 30,000 men.
