Even though Austria is one of Europe’s smallest countries; covering just over 32,000 square miles, it has a vast range of upland areas, mountains and alps which comprise 60% of the total land in the country. Austria has nearly 9 million citizens and its main language is German. Austria is a landlocked country and is surrounded by The Czech Republic in the North, Hungary to the East, Switzerland to the West and Italy to the South. Austria is also known as Österreich which is its German name.
